Technical information about galvanising

For a good result, the materials must satisfy a number of conditions:

  • the steel quality must be right: see NEN-EN-ISO-1461.
  • inlet and outlet holes must have been made in the correct manner.
  • materials must be free of impurities, with the exception of rust and mill scale, that cannot be removed by chemical pretreatment.

That means materials must be free of:

  • paint and/or varnish (or traces);
  • welding sprays that contain silicone;
  • welding slag;
  • oil and/or grease layers;
  • marks with pastel crayon, paint or inappropriate markers;
  • adhesives, glues, stickers etc.

When the materials are presented for the Duplex system and for powder coating after galvanisation, they must also meet specific requirements.
